2004: Bonnie & Walter Morse
Bonnie and Walter Morse have been name as Hillsborough's Citizens of the Year for 2004. Their
contributions to the community have been unlimited. Bonnie, a life-long resident, currently serves
on the Board of Directors for Hillsborough Pride, and served on the Zoning Board and on St.
Mary's Parish Council. She's volunteered at Meals on Wheels and Hillsboro House Nursing Home, as
well as served on numerous town committees and organizations.
Walter, a former Hillsborough Selectman, State Trooper, and Hillsborough County Sheriff,
currently belongs to many law enforcement associations including, but not limited to, the NH
Retired State Troopers, the 100 Club, and the National and New Hampshire's Sheriffs Associations.

Commissioner for Hillsborough County.
The Morses, besides owning Morse's Sporting Goods, work tirelessly not only for the community
as a whole, but also for its individuals and families in times of need. Bonnie's take on volunteering?
Instead of complaining, people should get off their *** and do something! Now that's a motto to live by!!
2003: Robert Landry
Robert Landry moved to Deering around 1990 from the Nashua area, where he was born, just a
short 78 years ago. He had worked for various manufacturers over the years, where he did everything
from maintenance work to tinkering with the machinery to make it run better, safer, or faster.
Bob always had an interest in science, questioning how and why things ran the way they did, and with
his work in the manufacturing field, he began inventing machinery and his interest in mechanics and
science began to flourish. In 1991, he opened up a shop in the Marcy Block, where he worked on his
machinery, his inventions, his trials and tribulations. He also set up a storefront for his side job,
known as Castaway Treasures. Soon his "Treasures" overwhelmed his location, and he bought
and moved into the current location of Castaway Treasures.
So, what most people ask is why does this 78 year old man sweep the downtown streets, water
the flowers, shovel Butler Park and local fire hydrants, with no complaints, no compensation; but
always with a smile and friendly conversation? Bob says this is how he gives back to the community
that has given him so much. Since moving to Hillsboro, his study of science has flourished;
specializing in polarity and magnetic fields. Bob's greatest enjoyment is picking up a book and
learning something new. So when he's taking a break from his research, he goes out and does a
little shoveling, sweeping, or whatever else he sees that needs to be done. Bob says everything
is a learning experience, and when he's out working he is still doing research. Bob's commitment to
his community makes him a citizen to certainly be proud of.
2002: Norma & David Hubbard
Norma and Dave Hubbard are long time residents of Hillsboro and took over running the Hillsboro
Food Pantry about five years ago. The Pantry is a very worthwhile organization that serves the needs
of Hillsboro citizens and those of the surrounding communities, up to 100 families per week. The
Hubbards have improved the Pantry's operation and often can be found setting things up on other days
besides Tuesdays (distribution day), so that volunteers will have an easier time. They have gotten
to know the clientele of the food pantry and individualize the help given when necessary, always
treating the clientele with dignity and a smile. They encourage the pantry's support by writing
thank-you notes, by letting needs be known, and always making sure donations are well used. These
two people give willingly to those less fortunate than themselves. Their efforts have no monetary
return or benefits, except in helping their fellow man. The only rumors that circulate about this
couple are about their unspoken dedication and that they might have something to do with flowers
being planted around Hillsboro when no one is looking!
