PURPOSE: The Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce will award 2 $1500 scholarships to a graduating student of the Hillsborough area or previous graduate, continuing higher education. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a balance between academic achievement, extra-curricular involvement and community service. The applications will not be judged based on financial need. Other specific criteria may apply. All information submitted will be held in the strictest confidence.

AWARD: The money may be used for tuition only. The award check will be made payable directly to the selected institution and will reflect the name of the recipient. The scholarship will be awarded in two checks; the first check for $1000 can be for use in the first or second semester. The remainder of scholarship ($500) will be sent to the institution once verification is received from the institution that the student has enrolled for another semester. Certain restrictions may apply.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
1) Complete the application
2) Submit copy of school transcripts
3) Write an essay of up to 500 words on one of the following topics:

• a) What does community service mean to me.
  
• b) Advice to an incoming high school freshman about how to succeed in high school.
  
• c) An important event, item, person, or activity that had a meaningful impact on your life & why.
  
• d) What is important to you about your town and why.

DEADLINE: Submit your completed application and portfolio by May 16, 2008 to the following address: An incomplete application may result in disqualification.
